SPF had a fantastic month for sports over the last month and a half. On the 20th of December SPF entered Imperio’s bowling tournament for the second year in a row, along with 15 other real estate companies. The 6 players in the SPF team were Suraj Poon, Zorro Ghura, Craig Hutchins, Abhik Sampat, Rohal Jan and Sanjeev Arora. The team managed to tally the highest score after the first round after some brilliant individual performances, and remained consistent in the second one, resulting in a first place finish!
On the 19th of January, SPF hosted its first of many intramural sporting events in the form of a cricket match hosted at Insportz. The two teams participating were the SPF Warriors, captained by Wajid Sabir, and the SPF Rovers, captained by Mohsin Ayub. Each team consisted of 8 players and played 16 overs per inning.
The Warriors started things off at a decent pace, scoring 31 runs from the first 4 overs. The following 4 overs, however, saw them score only 8 runs. A strong partnership between Wajid and Burhan managed to pull the Warriors back into the game with a massive 38 runs, with Wajid scoring 16, and Burhan scoring an impressive 22. Ranjeet and Nasim finishing off the innings with a solid 13 runs in 4 overs. The Warriors managed to score an impressive total of 90 runs.
The Rovers were keen to get going, confident that they could give the Warriors a run for their money. However, a slow start in their first 8 overs where they only managed 12 runs, made chasing a score of 90 extremely difficult. The next 4 overs saw Najib and Rizvi hitting a massive 37 runs, with Najib scoring 15 and Rizvi scoring a notable 22 runs. The last 4 overs for The Rovers saw Mohsin hitting an amazing 31 runs, the highest in the competition. However, despite an admirable comeback in the last 8 overs, The Rovers fell short by just 10 runs, scoring a total of 80.
Consistency is ultimately what won the game for the Warriors as The Rovers slow start cost them, despite a valiant effort in the last 8 overs. The man of the match reward was rightfully given to Mohsin Ayub for a brilliant score of 31 runs in 13 balls.
